Carolina Panthers vs Jacksonville Jaguars are set for an NFL Week 1 battle at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Florida. The game will take place on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. eastern time

Both of these teams underwent major reconstruction in the off-season.

Last season, the Carolina Panthers had a mediocre Special Teams unit, at best. Special Teams coach Bruce DeHaven has taken a medical leave of absence and Head Coach Ron Rivera has chosen Russ Purnell to command the troops in that unit while DeHaven is out, which will likely be for the entire season. Purnell's most recent assignment was as the Jaguar's Special Teams coach from 2009 to 2011. He's confident he can turn things around. He's got to because the Carolina ST guys ranked last in opponent punt return average and 2nd to last in kick off returns at the end of the 2014-2015 season.

Ron Rivera got a few gifts this off-season. He signed Safety Marcus Ball from the New Orleans Saints to fill a much needed gap and Offensive Tackle Michael Oher of the famed "Blind Side" book and movie. From the draft, the Carolina Panthers have 1st round pick Shaq Mayo at Linebacker and 2nd round pick Devin Funchess at Wide Receiver. Mayo will learn a thing or two from Luke Kueckly and Funchess will be ready to enhance Kelvin Benjamin running down field opening weekend.

That's one side of the Carolina Panthers vs Jacksonville Jaguars match up. Now, let's take a look at what those Jacksonville Jaguars have going on. There are two big stories of the Jaguar's off-season. One is good and the other one is not very good. Their 1st round draft pick, Defensive End Dante Fowler, Jr. is out for the season due to a torn ACL at his first practice on May 8th, 2015. The Jag's were counting on him to effectively manage opposing pass rushing.

The good news is better than the bad news was bad! Quarterback Blake Bortles has shown remarkable improvement in every area of QB fundamentals in the off-season. He's got the coaches smiling, teammates chest bumping and reporters writing. If he can look as good in this game as he has been looking on the practice field, Bortles may just be a Jag's franchise QB yet.

After the first OAT (Organized Team Activity), Head Coach Gus Bradley was pleased with what he saw. Tight End Julius Thomas had more than a few amazing catches. Thomas is the veteran on the offense. The offensive line is young and Wide Receiver Allen Hurns is only in his 2nd year. Even with the adversities, the Jacksonville Jaguars have built an impressive squad a need to be taken seriously.

So, there you have it. The Carolina Panthers vs Jacksonville Jaguars on opening weekend of the NFL's 2015-2016 season. Tune in!
